Some time ago, Denmark announced plans for multiple “energy islands”. Each island supports at least 10GW of installed offshore wind power capacity, which can meet the power needs of more than 10 million European households. The total cost of the project is expected to be up to DKK 300 billion (approximately 305.7 billion yuan), which is by far the largest renewable energy plan in the world.

It is reported that the Danish government has allocated 65 million DKK (approximately 66.235 million yuan) for preliminary research preparations. The survey area includes the Kattegat Strait, the Baltic Sea and the North Sea. The main work is to determine the feasibility of the plan, find a suitable location for the establishment of an energy island, select the site for the second offshore wind farm specified in the energy agreement signed in 2019, and carry out research on the combination of the offshore wind farm project and the energy island project.

Dan Jørgensen, Minister of Climate, Energy and Utilities of Denmark, said: “This is a huge project, and our installed capacity needs to be expanded to more than 5 times the current size. Therefore, a rigorous scientific plan must be developed . “
